Instructors of Record: Leading Class in an Adventure
CATE TA Workshops
September 4, 2025
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
Overview
TA’s who will lead courses as instructors of record can learn more about responsibilities and duties across the semester. This will be a Choose Your Own Adventure Workshop where participants work in groups and choose a topic of interest they’d like to learn more about: backward design, contract grading, metacognitive feedback practices, and literacy and AI. At the end of the workshop, we’ll come together in an open forum to reflect on these teaching practices as well as voice any concerns about teaching the upcoming semester.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Implement the backward design framework into their own course design.
- Learn and discuss the limits and affordances of contract grading.
- Apply metacognitive feedback practices to their students’ work.
- Reimagine the role of AI in literacy-related activities and assignments.
WORKSHOP FORMAT: This workshop will be held on-campus, in-person in room 201 in the Teaching Excellence Building (TEB) located on 924 S. Morgan Street.
WORKSHOP FACILITATOR: Jenny Torres, jtorr74@uic.edu
