Greetings from DGS
Thank you for considering the University of Illinois at Chicago for your graduate studies in political science. Our department has much to offer: a distinguished faculty, a vibrant graduate student environment, the resources available in a first-rate research university, and the excitement of one of the world’s great cities.
If it is practical for you, please schedule an appointment to visit the UIC campus and to meet with our Graduate Advisor, and me, the Director of Graduate Studies. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our program, application process, or other matters.
Please explore the rest of our website, which contains a lot of important and helpful information about our department. Here you can find essential information about the faculty’s research interests, look up course syllabi for required classes, and learn about events in and around the department.
We promote intellectual curiosity and a healthy exchange of ideas among graduate students and faculty. To this end, students are encouraged to form mentor relationships with faculty. Our Graduate Association of Political Science (GAPS) is an independent student organization that promotes departmental engagement and the exchange of intellectual ideas. The department also encourages students to learn outside UIC through the visiting scholar program of the Chicago Metropolitan Exchange Program and through specialized training opportunities offered at other universities.
Chicago is a global city with an unmatched architectural heritage and cultural vitality. UIC is located only a few blocks away from Chicago’s Loop and is adjacent to thriving urban neighborhoods such as Greek Town and Little Italy. There is a direct elevated train “EL” connection to the Loop, Union Station, and to the city’s two major airports. The city has spawned a voluminous literature in all fields of knowledge, and it continues to attract attention from scholars from all over the world.
We look forward to receiving your application for our excellent program.
Yue Zhang, Director of Graduate Studies
